Hello,

My dad served on the USS Eaton DD510, although I'm not sure in what capacity or for how long. I know he was there when the incident with the Wisconsin occurred, and I know he always used to refer to the "Fighting five and dime". Anyway, his name was John Brennan and he passed away on May 10, 2016. I don't know if anyone here knew him. Thank you all for your service.

The Eaton will always be with us. I am a volunteer on the Wisconsin  BB 64, so 3 days a week I get to talk about my lady the Eaton DDE 510. I am lucky to spend so much time swapping sea stories with these other vets. There are a lot more people  that now know  there was a Lady named the Eaton out there fighting for freedom. Please tell Leon Freeman (STG2 Aboard the Eaton 1966 - 1968) that the Eaton is NOT off Jacksonville, FL, at all; she's about 100smi/115nmi due east of Atlantic City, NJ  See:

  http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?143178

Depth not stated; you'd need the Cape May - Cape Hatteras hydrographic chart to get her depth.

Hi,  My name is Gary Hawk and a friend of mine that is always going to yard sales and flea markets found an old belt buckle that has engraved on it "USS EATON DDE 510 G.L. HAWK". He gave it to me because those are my initials and last name. I wonder if we were by chance related? If anyone has any information on or about this man, I would love to here what you could tell me. Thanks in advance.

Today is June 20, forty seven years ago today the USS Eaton left Norfolk for Vietnam. I'm not one for remembering dates but for some reason this one sticks with me every year.  I hope all our shipmates who read this take a moment to reflect with pride on our service to the country we love.

To: Frederick Hinze - Yours is a big name in our family.  Since it is not that common, I was curious.  My uncle was Frederick S Hinze of Burlingame, CA.   His son, my cousin was Capt. Fred S Hinze USAAF, lost with his B-24 near Timor on Oct. 26 1943, in a heroic but losing fight with Japanese planes.  My Uncle's grandson Frederick S Hinze lives in North Carolina, along with sons Fred and Samuel.)  Couldn't help wondering if there was a connection... I was transferred fm navcomsta norfolk to USS Eaton in the fall of 1963 and a few days later set sail with the USS Enterprise and others to do a Med Cruise. We ran into a hurricane taking 30 to 40 degree roles and everyone was sea sick. What an experience. It's very difficult to explain the g forces  to others when climbing ladders  or being thrown fm side to side.  The really dangerous time was coming and going fm the radio shack to aft quarters in rough weather because there was no inner passageway. I'll never forget my time on the Eaton, which lasted just 1 yr.

USS EATON REUNION ASSOCIATION

Ahoy Shipmates,

The two thousand twelve USS EATON SHIP’S REUNION draws near and the planning  has progressed to the next stage. The date has been set for 23-29 April 2012 and the event will take place at the  KONA KAI RESORT, SPA & MARINA, beautifully located at the very tip of Shelter Island, San Diego, CA and offering magnificent garden, marina and bay views.

We are looking at the idea of chartering an AMTRAK coach for the round trip journey from the East Coast to the West Coast. The fare will apply senior citizen rates; dining car privileges; sleeping car with bedrooms & roomettes and the various amenities that AMTRAK offers. Most important, we will travel in comfort and avoid the high price of gasoline and the rising plane fares. You will be able to board the train at key cities along North East & Western route.

We ask that you vote on this proposal to give us a quorum of shipmates, their spouses and guests so that we may apply the figure in our negation with AMTRAK for the best deal. If you require further information before making a decision, please call Tom Weiss @ 815 471-1878

_____ YES, _____persons wish to participate in AMTRAK  travel

_____ NO, I do not wish to participate in AMTRAK travel

Hi Gang, I recently received an e-mail from Bruce Warnok  thanking for helping with his request for compensation with the V.A. I to have a hearing going on with the V.A. for a sugar related problem. This in itself is not important for it's a very minor problem. The problem is the Vetran's  Service Agency here in Binghamton also can find no record of the Eaton ever being in Viet Nam. Is there something we can do about this so the five and dime can have the honor that she deserves? God Bless, Your shipmate Eddie McHugh.
